GreenField NGV Beginnings

GreenField’s NGV roots are derived from the formation and merging of two Swiss industrial companies now nearly 200 years ago.

Sulzer was established in 1834. Today it is a publicly owned Swiss company with subsidiaries throughout the world.  Company shares are listed on the Swiss stock exchange.

Burckhardt was established in 1844 and in 1969 became a wholly owned subsidiary of Sulzer Brothers Ltd.  In 1982 all piston compressor activities were merged into a single business entity operating as Sulzer - Burckhardt Engineering Works Ltd.

The scope of Sulzer – Burckhardt’s business extended from marketing through design, engineering, manufacturing and installation to servicing and advice on operations

GreenField NGV Yesterday

The NGV activities GreenField previously where known as Sulzer and were started at Sulzer - Burckhardt as early as 1914 with the supply of compressors and refueling stations for the dispensing of methane. (Town gas) The pictures to the left, taken from a catalogue published in the 1930’s, illustrates such a station, complete with storage and dispenser.

Greenfield Compression NGV Today

Since that time GreenField has delivered equipment to over 1600 stations around the world. GreenField has supplied equipment to the North American market since the early eighties and currently has over 150 stations operating in North America. Some of these stations have dispensed in excess of 2,500,000 GGE’s of natural gas while accumulating compressor run times of over 25,000 hours.
